While the first half piques our interest levels, the second half especially the climax is a major letdown and beyond predictable. With such a stellar cast, Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster fails with its weak script that could have been much better.

It’s extremely rare for a sequel to be as good or even better than its predecessor especially in the world of Bollywood. However, the Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster series proved otherwise. With a stellar star cast and a crisp storyline, part one and two were above and beyond many expectations and proved Tigmanshu Dhulia’s mark as a director with an edge.

Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3 showed promise with the returning favourites Jimmy Sheirgill and Mahie Gill and the addition of Sanjay Dutt, who seemed like the perfect Gangster to the crew, given Baba’s celebrated filmography of playing well, lovable gangsters.

The film starts where part two left us as Raja Aditya Pratap Singh (Jimmy) takes the “honourable” route to bring himself back to power and Rani Madhavi Devi (Mahie) tries everything in her power to stop him. On the other hand, we are introduced to Raam Baba (Sanjay) who owns a club in London but has the roots of his family in India and is madly in love with his mistress Mona (Chitrangda Singh). What follows is a cat and mouse chase with twists and turns along the way.

When it comes to the performances, Jimmy and Mahie have proved yet again as to why they have been the ultimate Saheb and Biwi with their naturally gifted performances. It’s a crime as to how underrated Mr. Sheirgill is and deserves a ton of praises for this movie as well. Mahie knows how to own the camera with her sensuality that does not feel over the top like Chitrangda, who was nothing but a prop to further the storyline.

On what could have been a launch pad for Sanjay to resurrect his career after Bhoomi, not enough screen time was given to Dutt. His character was of a badass gangster with a heart of gold. Does it remind you of someone else? Munna Bhai maybe? Raam Baba is a grittier version of Munna Bhai but fails to steal our hearts like a certain MBBS doctor did. While Randeep Hooda and Irrfan Khan shined in the first two installments, Sanju Baba was overshadowed by Jimmy and Mahie tremendously.

When it comes to the storyline, Tigmanshu disappoints! While the first half piques our interest levels, the second half especially the climax is a major letdown and beyond predictable. With such a stellar cast, Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster fails with its weak script that could have been much better.

We rate it a 30% on the movie meter.
